Rompre won the silver medal as a member of the U.S. Olympic team in 1952. He became a member of the Fond du Lac Bears in the mid- 1950s and continued playing for 18 seasons, well into the 1970s. He was instrumental in beginning the youth hockey program in Waupun and was active in the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association. He was a superstar for the Fond du Lac Bears.
